Community Development "Show and Tell " Event 28th March North West Recource Centre Dumfries

Building Healthy Communities held a Community Development " Show and Tell event" this Wednesday at the North West Resource Centre in Dumfries 

The days events  were introduced by Michelle McCoy ( Joint Interim Director Public Health, NHS D&G ) who presented the aims of the days events ,and introduced our Guest Speakers,



 Jeff Ace , Chief Executive, NHS Dumfries and Galloway ,who provided a reflection of the last six months ,The successes and the challenges ahead as we move into a new model of care and promotion of health and Wellbeing within our communities and the roles we all have to meet the future

Mary Black, (Assistant Director of Public Health, Health and Social Wellbeing ,Public Health Agency Northern Ireland  ) provided a very interesting  presentation in how the Community Development approach is delivered in Northern Ireland within their own Health and Social Care  programmes, and how cross border opportunities to learn from each other were to be seen as beneficial to the learning process

Paul Nelis  ( Development Manager, Scottish Development   Centre ) highlighted a Scottish perspective in Community Development , and Phrased D&G NHS in having a community development organisation such as Building Healthy Communities ,who hold a wide range of experience and delivery programmes that support those in the community experiencing inequality and need ,which other Regions do not have.

Those attending had an opportunity to visit the "Market Stall" , set up where   Building Healthy Communities  Volunteers showcased their respective projects and initiatives and the work of  Health and Wellbeing Teams  across the region, which provided a great opportunity to share approaches ,learn from each other and share ideas   


A presentation  demonstration on Tai Chi for Health was provided by  Building Healthy Communities Tai Chi Volunteer Facilitators , who explained the  Background  to  the development of the specific Tai Chi for Health, that  they all deliver within the communities across the region   



 
  We can not forget to mention the Community Café and its Staff at the North West Resource Centre who provided an outstanding quality of lunch for all the attending Guests and participants at the days events






We would like to thank everyone who provided their time and support in the delivery of the event and its successful day,
